The Arctic Winter Games Committee is visiting Fairbanks Alaska to discuss the possible location for the 2014 Artic Winter Games.
The Committee will have a community reception at the Big Dipper Ice Arena to discuss and demonstrate the support the community has for the event to be hosted in Fairbanks.
The formal bid is in October but talks happen now about all the details included in the bid. The committee will tour the Fairbanks area and visit places such as the Birch Hill Rec area where cross-country skiing and biathlon events would be held.
The mayor and senators will be present at the receptions as well as mayors and city officials from North Pole and surrounding communities.
Right now the 2012 Arctic Winter Games will be held in Whitehorse, Yukon but the games are a biennial celebration of games and sports for the Arcitc and northern atheletes to come together. More than 2,000 athletes typically perform in the week long even held every two years in March. The games include cross country skiing, hockey, dog mushing, figure skating and many more winter events.
